♿️ WHEELCHIAR ACCESS AT DISNEYS TYPHOON LAGOON | SHOULD YOU BOTHER?

Hi guys welcome back, welcome to another
travel series of vlog in this video I am going to be reviewing and talking about
all of the accessibility in Disney’s waterpark.
Disney has two water parks it has Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Good morning
and welcome back today we’re off to Typhoon Lagoon I’m really excited but I
have no idea what the accessibility is going to be like and I have no idea if
I’m actually gonna be able to get on any of the slides and if I’m wondering that
I think a lot of you are going to be wondering that too so let’s sit back
relax and enjoy this video and see what we get to do. So we actually got the bus
the complimentary bus from our hotel to the water park we were staying in
Disney’s Caribbean beach hotel resort but it’s just around the corner from
Typhoon Lagoon and it drops you right outside the front of the waterpark. There
is a disabled parking there and there’s plenty of spaces available Haha!! we are at
typhoon lagoon, its so lovely and hot and look I can’t wait to see…. I can see the pirate
ship through there can you see the pirate ship? can
you hear the music oh my god need to get a shady spot. which way is the Sun going? east to west but
I’ve lost my bearings here, oh I’ve got a compass on my phone! Hey!! we need to get a high five!! whooo yes the famous joffrys, shaun! doughnuts, fresh fruit. Ahhh its the Lazy river! Oh my god I can’t wait to get on there..Ahh there’s they lagoon! when you get into Typhoon Lagoon it is all relatively smooth and
relatively flat and accessible to get around Can we go in the big pool to start off with? yes definitely
maybe we could try out one of the pool side wheelchairs?
if we see a person we can find out. there is a life guard over there… In typhoon
lagoon I’m not entirely sure where the official place is for the poolside
wheelchairs but all of the cast members are extremely helpful and really really
friendly so we just asked a cast member and they’ve bought one of the
wheelchairs over for us the water wheelchair? I will have them, I’m actually on my way backstage so I’ll
have them come down here and talk to you. Actually I have a coordinator right here so
I can ask him about the wheelchair. hey Justin? Let me see what I can find
for you okay y’all gonna be hanging out right here okay okay can I just ask what rides are accessible? okay I know for sure crushed and gusher is going to be
accessible for wheelchair usage we do have an elevator that goes up to the top,
and then you just have to have someone go up and like retrieve the
wheelchair for you when you come back. and then they’ll bring it back down the
elevators to the bottom. And the lazy river? we do have handicap
accessible entries at all of five of our landings. You going in? Well there is a big wave! The wheelchairs
are given out on a first come first serve basis while we were there I was
the only person using a poolside wheelchair you don’t have to fill out
any forms and you don’t need to prove any ID
and you don’t need to give a deposit like you do with the wheelchairs in the
main parks. okay this is our first foray into the water together let’s check out the size of this wave. mommy’s coming down in her regular
wheelchair what’s happening? yes lovely nicely cool (so bright!) we have the chair. I tried to move it myself but i cant yeah you need a hand the wheelchair is not very comfortable it’s extremely
heavy and all of the wheels were really really stiff I don’t think they get used
much. I would be careful if you are prone to any pressure sores or
anything like that just to bear that in mind because there’s no cushioning or
padding at all on the wheelchair. I’ve got a new really sexy wheelchair I could
construct one of those with like PVC tubing I thought I could wheel it myself
but I can’t I can’t really see what I’m filming anything I’m new to this GoPros
technologies yeah and there’s no footplate either so but to be careful
that my feet don’t get caught. So we later discovered right at the end of our
trips to all of the waterpark that there is actually a slide-out foot plate
rest type thing underneath the wheelchair. Yay we can go right though the water. and then just tip you in so I’ll just
run ok I won’t run, all my fat bounces around! Woooo!! Watch your feet. Look at my poor feet. yeah Ill jump out here. funny experience Ahh as glamorous as a mermaid! Daisy so while I was at typhoon lagoon I
didn’t see any hoists for any of the pools but the main lagoon does have a
zero entry to the pool so you can just ride the wheelchair straight into the
port and then some flop out as I did so elegantly here Here she comes How did you get up here? I bum shuffled! Here she comes the main lagoon pool is North America’s
largest wave pool where you can experience swells of up to six feet and
it’s in sane and how do we get on well take a look at this Look daddy look!!! Ahh its a massive one! (Screams and laughter) yep those are my leg sticking up there oh my god the way fool was a complete disaster! That was really scary! I just got taken away by a wave and my legs ere just like! I told you they do massive one. You alright That hurt! all right let’s get into the deep water those waves are really really
powerful even the really small waves as you come closer into the shore as you
can see I was like a rag doll. The is like sand paper. but where I cant control myself Its shredded my skin there, and on my bum cheeks aswell. “you just got whacked by a little wave coming in and got dragged along the concrete.” So i need to go in deep and I think ill be ok, “comes again” But db dosent want to go in deep. woooo Onto the Lazy River now. and as you can see every single access
point had a transfer block which I have never seen before okay so at every point in the Lazy River they have these really cool transfer blocks. These are the type of blocks you use to get on a horse as well. You can just transfer on then bum shuffle down if your able to. “Bum shuffle hahaha” And they have got a handle on each step as well. let’s see the bum shuffle. for me personally it was just amazing
and I found them really really useful to use unfortunately there weren’t any
hoists there so you’d either have to get someone to carry you in or use these
transfer blocks. Now the lazy river if you don’t know what it is is a river
that runs around the outside of the park with quite a slow current and you can
sit in the little tubes inflatable tubes and float your way around and what we
had to do would leave the wheelchair at one of the entrances and then we had to
go all the way around back to the entrance that we got even .From some
people kind of you know use it as a way to travel around the park but you can do
a full circle you’ll be absolutely fine. and in case you’re wondering Shuan sort
of lifted me into the tubes. Music we’ve just finished up in the lazy river
and now we’re gonna go get something to eat as well and I looking handsome. well
that was quite a mission wasn’t it Daisy Yeah it was worth it you got the favorite
Diggity Dog I’ve gone to Geoffrey’s and I have got this like doughnut but isn’t
a long Doughnut. unfortunately I couldn’t manage your
coffee otherwise already got a latte but we did get some coke. We don’t know where shaun has gone do we Daze? All of the main slides in the waterpark are completely
inaccessible for wheelchair users they have long flights of steps quite steep
steps all the way up to all of the slides but shaun is going to just show
you around some of the slides now. ( Music) One of the rides that are accessible for
wheelchairs is Miss Adventure Falls now this was fantastic because what you had
to do was enter the slide at the exit which is kind of like an infinity pool
and Shaun could ride the wheelchair right up to the exit of the ride “you can go ahead and get her in fist.” “all the way out of the water for me
please” okay we’re on Miss Adventure Falls We were able to bring the chair right up! we’re gonna gush culture crusher plus
then we’ll go on cutter cutter have forgotten there I said it ever stop Mary’s something there we go guys just remember to hold on. Music yeah great fun really long slide it was
totally worth it what’s really nice about it is that
because it is quite a lot of effort to get on the slide and takes a lot of
energy the cast members kind of recognize this and they will let you
ride a couple of times so… And you don’t have to que! Now we are going on crush n gusher. and I’ve been told that there’s a lift we have followed the wheelchair sign. I’m just
gonna wait now and…. we need a cast member Crush n Gusher is a relatively new
waterslide well relatively new it was opened in 2005 and it’s a 400-foot
waterslide with kind of like a coaster feel to it it’s really really good fun
because it is relatively new there is a lift so it is accessible wheelchair
users. We are off to get the lift and we have a lovely cast member holding our raft for u, Daisy is behind holding her raft. Poor db! Finding the lift. there we go this looks like the elevator. I’ve never ever been in an elevator with
raft strange experience Now there isn’t
any sort of hoist or anything to assist you with transferring what happened was
one of the cast members held onto one of the tubes
Daisy sat in the front and Shaun lifted me into the back of the tube and then
the cast members pushed us down Music Allright was that good? Db wants to go again. what is good about this ride is that you don’t have to queue and there is quite a
long queue however as you can see there was a lot of effort involved so sadly
I didn’t ride this right again and this footage you see is actually at the end
of the day when I was a little bit pooped! So I have been asking
you what you want to know about the water parks over on Instagram and I
think I’ve answered a lot of your questions here one of the questions that
was asked was about the changing rooms now I cannot believe this and I could
kick myself if I could but I did not film the changing rooms we filmed a
little bit of the locker area and I was in the back of my mind I must go and do
that not going to do that but it was our vacation after all and we filmed as much
as we can it is one of those things at the end of the day we’ll be just so
exhausted we do get a chance to film them. Disney are really good at
accommodating guests with disabilities So I would be quite confident in
saying that there would be some sort of accessible shower I’ve had a look on the
depths and deepest darkest areas of the Internet to see if I could find any
information about the changing rooms and what I can find is that the changing
rooms are quite basic but there’s nothing about the accessible changing
rooms but what we did was because we’ve got the bus there and because it was so
hot as well you’re cosies dry in like seconds and you dry in seconds so
we didn’t have to worry about using the changing rooms which is kind of a good
thing . Now the biggest question is should you bother with typhoon lagoon if you
are a wheelchair user and well this is a bit of a spoiler
because I’m going to be doing a video on blizzard Beach as well and Blizzard
Beach is so so much better which you will find out in the next video so make
sure to press subscribe turn on those bell notifications so you can watch the
Blizzard Beach video my advice would be don’t bother with Typhoon Lagoon
because Blizzard Beach is so much better and time it’s Disney is really really
precious and you want to make the most of it. It was hard work going to a
waterpark with a disability I would love to know your experiences of going to a
waterpark with a disability it’s not the easiest of things in the world but I was
stoked with the accessibility that was available. make sure to give this video a
thumbs up and if you enjoyed this video then you will probably like my
accessible hotel tour so I’ll link it down below make sure to give this video
a thumbs up subscribe if you haven’t already and I look forward to seeing
you in my next one bye
