12 Day of Meditation | First Experience With Meditation

12 Day of Meditation | First Experience With Meditation

hi guys Bea here and in this video I’m
going to share with you my experience with meditation twelve days of
meditation to be more exact so what is it like to meditate for a beginner and
is meditation with worth trying? you’re gonna have to wait until the end of the video
to find out for a while now I’ve been hearing all
these amazing things about meditation how beneficial it is for your mental
health for your physical health and I finally got around she tried myself so I
thought I would share the experience with you guys just to let you know I’m
not going to actually explain how to meditate in this video we have done a
completely separate video which is a guide to meditation so if you guys want
you can check it out here but back to the twelve days of meditation how did it
actually work here’s a couple of ground rules that I follow during this time I
aim to meditate for about 15 minutes per day during this time I would use my
breath as the center of attention and I would vlog about my experience after
each session cool so now you guys are pretty much up to speed and we can start
with day number one so this is day 1 of my 12 days of
meditation and I just finished my meditation for today and I have to say I
did find it quite difficult to maintain my focus I just kept thinking about what
I was gonna do next and sort of mentally planning my day but one thing that
really did help me was counting my breaths compared to the other times that
I have tried to meditate this time was different because in the past I always
got so frustrated with myself for allowing my mind to wonder after reading
more into meditation I know that being frustrated doesn’t help the process at
all it’s day 2 of the 12 days of meditation
and today I had a little meditation buddy well two actually and the really
cool thing when you’re doing this with someone and especially someone that is
younger than you is that when you’re explaining it to them you sort of
relearn the whole concept so actually that is beneficial for for both of you
and I was really pleasantly surprised that my little cousin wanted to join me
after I said that I was going to meditate today so it was overall a very
great meditation session today it’s Sunday and I’m spending the weekend with
my family in the countryside and being here with the garden and everything
definitely makes me feel like more in a retreat tea sort of place one of the
things that I’m noticing outside of the meditation is that I’m trying to be more
present in the moment sort of like these moments that you have in the meditation
when you catch yourself like all right I should be counting my breaths I am
catching myself doing that in real life which is definitely helping me to become
more mindful so overall a good meditation day and now I’m gonna go
spend some quality time with a puppy day four I am back in Vienna and today’s
meditation was a bit different than the previous ones of course there are many
things that do distract me during meditations usually it’s stuff
that is happening outside sort of cars passing by or if I hear something in the
apartment I think that I realized was helping me keep my focus was to imagine
myself in the middle of a circle and the circle is my awareness so everything
that I can hear or sense everything that I am aware of and I am in the middle of
the circle and since I’m trying to keep it attention on my breath I’m trying to
imagine the attention to be in the middle of the circle so with me where
I’m breathing and if I noticed that my attention is shifting for example to
something that is happening outside like I already mentioned I catch our passing
by then I would imagine my attention going sort of further away from the
center of the circle and then when I realized this I would ground myself in
the middle of the circle again and bring my attention back here these meditations
are for sure not easy it takes a lot of self-awareness and focus but I have to
say that I am really enjoying them and it’s just a nice positive experience
that I get during the day it is day five and today I have a really
busy day ahead of me and I almost forgot today’s meditation oh yeah yeah um
otherwise today’s meditation was pretty difficult
I was very distracted but then I guess it really comes down to what is going on
in your life what you have planned next because if there is a lot going on and
you are busy with a billion other things this would also take up mind space and
that means that there will be less mind space for you to use during the
meditation but it’s a practice I’m not giving up and we’re continuing on
tomorrow so it’s day six and the past two days
have been pretty busy for me and I definitely see it reflected in the
meditation sessions as well my mind is just so much busier than normally and I
am actually finding it more difficult to focus right now than even at the very
very beginning which I thought there would be more of a progress even
day-to-day but now I really see how sensitive I am to the environment around
me and that when there is more going on and when I am busier my mind is also
just more full and busy with thoughts you know these days when just doing the
meditation is a success today is exactly that day for me it’s day 8 and after hitting a little
rough patch with meditation I decided to go back to the basics so I reread
everything all the basic instructions on how to meditate and one of the
interesting things I came across was motivation and how revisiting your
motives for starting out meditation in the first place can help you stay
motivated in the long term which is exactly what I did yesterday and I wrote
down the question why do I want to learn how to meditate and then I listed out a
couple of reasons for myself and I have to say that today’s meditation was
already better easier in a way and I feel like refreshing my why for
meditation really helped to put me back on track today I didn’t manage to sit completely
still and my mind was wandering but in the end I did enjoy today’s meditation
and that’s all that matters it’s day 10 I just finished my
meditation and today was pretty good as well I wasn’t super super focused my
mind kept running but in the end not putting so much pressure on myself with
sitting super straight or really counting my breaths all the time
made me enjoyed the meditation more because I was able to be more relaxed I’m gonna be completely honest here I
did not meditate for 15 minutes today I meditated for about 13 and at that point
I felt like the meditation was over for today so instead of forcing myself to
sit there for another 2 minutes I just enjoyed it and that was it for today I
guess there will be days when I need to stay in the meditation for longer some
days shorter this was one of those days fine for me I’m looking forward to
tomorrow always good it’s j12 the last day of the 12 days of
meditation I meditated for about 17 minutes today in the morning and it felt
really refreshing relaxing and now I’m ready to kick start my day do you think
I’m still meditating today you’re gonna have to wait until the end of the video
to find out because first I’d like to share with you some of the main things
that I learned during this time first of all don’t force yourself into something
that doesn’t feel good especially at the beginning when we’re just learning how
to meditate keep in mind that it’s supposed to be a pleasant experience
something that brings you joy in the day and it is exactly this that will help
you stay motivated in the long term another thing that I learned is that is
very useful to set a specific time for meditation mornings have worked best for
me and they’re also generally recommended by experts since the point
of meditation is to focus it is really important that we use our energy to
focus and if you’re meditating in the evening after a busy day at work you’re
probably gonna have less energy than in the morning when you just woke up and
you’re more refreshed and one of the most important things I learned during
this time is do not give up there won’t be bad days for sure there will be days
when you don’t feel like meditating when you will be able to meditate for only a
couple of minutes and you will get distracted and when you will find it
very hard to focus but even these days are a part of the process and just like
in life there are good days and there are bad days the key is just not giving
up on yourself so to answer the question if I’m still meditating Tuesday is yes
yes I am actually I’m enjoying it even more than
at the very beginning I feel like I’ve sort of worked out what works for me
what doesn’t and I know that I’m still only at the very beginning of the whole
journey but I’m really enjoying my 15 to 20 minutes each morning and is
definitely helping me feel more calm and mindful during the day but now I’d like
to hear from you guys have you ever tried meditating before? what have your
experiences been? let us know in the comments below I hope you guys enjoyed
today’s video and I’ll see you next time have a great day bye
