2019 Yoga at Rogers Elementary

I have been doing yoga for oh my gosh
are like 15 years. Last fall, I really got involved with wanting to just learn more about kids yoga and I thought if we could offer this to
children at a much younger age, I think that it would be an incredible way to
handle a lot more emotional things, things that come up and just different
fears and just really learning how to breathe through things. I think it’s a
huge piece of yoga. So with kids you have to keep it fun and light and
they’re not adults, so they want to play, they want to move,
they want to do a lot of things. So I do a lot of games. So I usually start
with some breath work.I have a breathing ball which they love.I’ll sometimes use
a chime and that kind of helps them just you know quiet down a little bit and we
do a little bit more yoga with some poses and then we go into relaxation
which they all usually love after all that movement. Sometimes you have like alot of tests maybe you’re excited for sixth grade, you’re excited, you’re sad
to leave fifth grade. You want to make sure like you’re not stressed. Stress is a
very bad thing and it’s all about releasing that negative energy. We
learned a lot of like deep breaths and like to calm ourselves down and I think
that’s important. Watching your breath and how you breathe is very important
because it it can help you focus better in class. To be able to have resources to
do something like this is incredible. The fact that this is something that our
Berkely Education Foundation is allowing us to do is huge.
It’s a huge thank you from me, from our school district, from our
principal, I know from all the teachers that I’ve gotten feedback from and that
I hope that we could continue to do this because I think it really would be
to see how much of a difference this makes in kids lives as we continue to do
this and as we continue to offer it for our children at such a young age. It’s
been really really great and I hope that the kids are getting something out of it
and continue to use it on the mat and off the mat, schoo,l at home with their
friends their family just a really great thing to learn.
