So lotus pose is probably the most well known
of all the yoga postures. Lotus pose is a pose that’s used for meditation; it’s
a pose that can be practiced in yoga to allow the body to be settle and serene as well as
active. So, to come into this pose we’ll unwind this a little bit so that you can see
that, again, so you want to start sitting with a nice upright spine, legs out to the
side. And then you’ll pull one leg in to half lotus, half lotus one foot is pulled
up to the opposite hip crease and then you may want to stay with half lotus which looks
like cross legged pose but with one foot into the opposite hip crease. And then if you’re
ready to come into full lotus, then take your other foot and place it in to your other hip
crease. Lotus is a wonderful pose for meditation because as soon as you’re able to come into
lotus pose you will feel that your spine has a wonderful, easy lift with no effort and
yet the lower body is grounding, equally without effort. So this is an ideal pose for meditation.
An important side note is that lotus pose is not for everyone, so any discomfort in
the knees or the hips needs to be very carefully watched. And if you have discomfort there
work with a teacher if you want to work more deeper into lotus pose.
