America’s Youngest Yoga Instructor?

America’s Youngest Yoga Instructor?

– We’ve covered many workout fads that have come and gone but with this long list
of mind-body benefits, like improved flexibility, muscle strength and relaxation, yoga,
well it’s here to stay. But we’ve heard about one instructor that’s changing the game
one class at a time. – Tabay is one of five yoga instructors that I have here at the studio. Our students vary from young, ages three and up til adults and Tabay is the most
popular teacher that we have. His classes are always full. – This is one of my favorite yoga classes because he’s so vibrant and full of life. – With Tabay, there’s
just a sense of calm. He really creates an
atmosphere of non-judgment. With his energy of love and
compassion for every student. – He looks at old guys like me and doesn’t expect us
to be Gumbi right away. – Actually, Tabay has
inspired me to finally get my 200 hour certification. – They love Tabay’s teaching and that it’s so youthful and just such an authentic, useful practice and that is mainly because he is a child. – Now arch your back and
look up at the ceiling and now round your back like a cat. Palms together, to your heart center. As the youngest yoga teacher in America, thank you guys for being here, Namaste. – [Class Participants] Namaste. (applause) – Please welcome Tabay to the show. (audience applauds) – All right, Tabay, how do I say hello and welcome in, like,
you do this namaste, right? – Namaste, yes, that’s respect. It means the highest in me, honors and respects the highest in you. But when I’m teaching kids, it’s the light in me
sees the light in you, or the love in me sees the love in you. – I love that, how did
you get interested in teaching yoga? – Well when my mom had
cancer, she did chemo, which really affected her by making it hard for her to walk. She was sad, scared, stressed so when she was doing yoga, it helped her walk again and she was healing faster. So then I knew that I wanted to do yoga so I could help heal people just like yoga helped heal my mom. (audience applauds) – Wow, I understand, you
know, I want you to also tell people, what you do with the money that you make from teachin’ these classes. – Okay, a hundred percent
of the money collected will be donated to kids who have cancer. (audience applauds) – Your mom and dad are
here, Sahel and Larry but I’m stealin’ him. (audience laughs) You must be so proud. – [Sahel] I am. – [Dr. Stork] Of everything he’s doin’. – Yeah he’s amazing. He just has this love
and passion for everyone and this doesn’t surprise me at all, what he wants to do and it just comes from his heart. It’s beautiful. (audience applauds) – Well and I love that you’re able to teach people not only the yoga moves but some of this, that
beautiful heart and soul that you have. Will you show me some
moves I should be doin’ when I get home tonight? – Yes. – Okay. – Let’s start with an easy one. It’s headstand, so I’ll start. – Easy peasy, lemon squeeze. – Wow. (audience applauds) – Wow, look at you. – Tabay, Dr. Funk and I both agree, that’s just too easy for us, something harder. – I’ll do a harder one. This one is called side crow. (audience applauds) Is that a little too easy? – Probably. – Try the tree. – Tree, okay. So you have to put your foot here, if you’re advanced. If you can’t balance, then put it right by your ankle. But never put it on your knee cause then it could
really injure yourself. And bring your hands to your heart center. – Kristy. – Well, I’ll try. – Make sure that your knee is out. – I’ll just do it this way. – And if it’s hard to balance, find a spot on the ground that you focus on. (audience applauds) – I’m gonna get this. You know what, I will say, I think yoga has so many wonderful health benefits when it does come to your mind and body and Tabay, I have to thank you personally for teachin’ everyone,
for bein’ such a great kid and keep up the great work. Can I come to one of
your classes sometime? – Yes. – [Dr. Stork] Do you promise
to take it easy on me? – Yeah. – Keep up the great work.
