Benefit from looking INSIDE | Two benefits of meditation

Now he is saying the consequence of such chanting, such meditation upon the name of God will be that our mind, consciousness will turn inwards. The problem is the Kathopanishad states, the creator Brahma has created our senses such that they are outwardly directed. The eyes want to see, the ears want to hear. the nose wants to smell. so all these senses are outwardly oriented. and they are tugging away at the mind. Hence our mind is searching for happiness on the outside. This search for happiness on the outside is the whole problem. Have you got happiness? No. Then? I will get it. I have not got it today because I am only a deputy director. If I become CEO, I will definitely be happy. Has the CEO got happiness? No, no. I am CEO of Samsung. If I become CEO of Apple, I will be happy. So this running is going on and all of us are spending our whole life in this pursuit. So we are looking on the outside. Naturally, we are forgetting the inside, to cultivate the inner life. When the inner life is bankrupt, no matter what we get on the outside, the peace of mind that we seek will not be achieved. If we really want the peace and happiness, we have to decide, I do not need to run for happiness to get it tomorrow. Let me look inside me and when my mind becomes peaceful, I will find that joy right now inside. not on the outside. That will happen when we turn inwards. So our saints have said that just like the kasturi deer, the katsuri deer, I believe in English is the musk deer. It has the fragrance inside it. But it is so aromatic that it appears to have spread around in the forest. So this kasturi deer runs, where is this wonderful aroma coming from? It does not realize, it’s coming from within itself. similarly Saint Kabir said, …hindi verse… everybody is running. You ask them what are you running for? “For happiness.” So just stop a moment, and decide where is the happiness? I do not have time, I am busy running. Now if only we could stop, become little introverted, we will find that all this running is all a waste of time and energy. This endeavour that happiness is in the future, is our mistake. Because when the future comes, again we will look for it in the future. Again when the future comes, we will look for it in the future. And lifetime passed by. The way to be happy is to be joyous in the present. And that requires us turning our sight from the outside to the inside. If you want to be successful on the outside, rather than struggling so much just turn your focus inside. Become successful on the inside, in managing your mind, in controlling your sentiments and emotions. When we purify our mind, external success will automatically come. That’s the way God’s creation works. And if you run for external success, and do not bother about internal purification, that external success will be ephemeral. But unfortunately, the design of our senses, which tug at the mind, is such they are always looking on the outside. So Maharshi Patanjali says, keep chanting the name of God. The first benefit you will get, will be your consciousness will go inside. And there in the purifying mind, in the stilled mind, you will find the presence of the Soul and of God. And you will start relishing the bliss of connecting with them. And when that connection is established, then all the waves and the turmoil outside will be unable to disturb your inner peace. And the second he says, is the impediments to devotion will be destroyed. The impediments to the highest realization. This is an interesting point. The impediments. What are the impediments? Again we think of them as on the outside. My husband is like this, my wife is like this, my neighbour is the cause of my problems, and kalyug is the cause of all problems. It is all because of the republicans or the democrats. All the impediments are inside us. Vaman Bhagvan had said, why do you search for demons on the outside? The biggest demons are inside you – Lust, Greed, Anger Hatred, Envy. Battle these demons on the inside. That is the real brave person. …hindi verse… The real brave person is the one who can defeat the demons inside.
