Daily yoga helps Shaw STEM students unwind, focus


It makes me more calmer because
when I first came I was super super hyper. I was really frustrated with the
work I had to do, but now I’m very calm. A lot of things just make you go
crazy and then at the end you just feel calm. We started right after school
got out in the middle of June and those girls have been coming every day, and I
think they’re seeing the benefits of doing it. I just finished my 28th year of teaching
and I’ve been doing yoga since I began teaching. And somewhere along my path I
became a yoga teacher. My goal is, I just want to give kids some stress reduction
strategies. We all have way too much stress in our life, so just teaching them
how to breathe, how to connect with their body, noticing how they’re feeling during
the day, and that just allows kids to self-regulate and I think it’s working,
so that’s really exciting. I sometimes do it on my own. I get stressed a lot at
home because I have a big family, so it makes me more relaxed and stuff. It makes me relax into
my mind. So it lets me just calm down. I just recommend that everyone should do
it, because it’s really nice. Namaste.
