Help! I Don’t Know The Name of this Pose! | Pose of the Week #79

But the whole posture is all about
pushing down and pulling in.
Pushing down, pulling in.Pushing out, pulling in.Hi Denise here and this is
Pose of the Week.
Except I have no idea
what this pose is called!
So if you know what
to call this posture,
please put it in
the comments below
because I can even
make up a good name.
But I really like this posture so I
wanted to do a video about it.
So what I’m talking about is taking
my leg out to the side.
I’m going to hold onto it with my
peace sign fingers.
So I’ll just come up
from a standing position,
usually come up
to this Half Lift position.
I recommend students put
one hand in the corner –
so if I’m mirroring you –this is always
my left leg, left hand.
I’m going to catch my right great toe
and my peace sign fingers
and pick it up.So I usually draw my
students attention to
grounding down
into the standing leg
and pulling the energy
into my core.
This is a posture about pulling the
energy into the core.
So I need to do that before I do
anything else.
And then I can work on
taking my foot out to the side.
Now you know a lot of people have a
struggle with that posture
because it’s a really weird thing
that we’re asking the body to do.
So of course, I offer
some props and options.
So you can first of all
put a hand on the block
and then either catch
with your great toe
but if that is a little inaccessible, then we just simply put a strap here. And pressing down once again
and pulling the energy into the core,
lift the foot
away from the mat.
And if it only goes this far,
it only goes that far.
But people might be able to come
out here if they’re using a strap.
But the whole posture is all about
pushing down and pulling in.
Pushing down, pulling in.Pushing out, pulling in.This is what we
learn from this posture
and it transcends the posture
into many other postures.
Obviously for Ardha
Chandrasasna posture.
Also for other standing postures –like this energy of
pulling into the core –
even for Bakasana
and other inversions.
So really great foundational poseto get people understanding
those basic mechanics –
pushing out and pulling in.So give it a try.Love this posture! And love to stay in
it for five or plus breaths –
coming out of it
and coming back up.
Enjoy that one! Please tell me what it’s called if
you can figure it out!
Thanks so much
for joining me today.
Bye for now!
