I’ve been doing Yoga every day for 6 months and my body feels great!


– My name’s Carly, and I’m from Canberra. I am about 10 years into a
recovery from an eating disorder, so as you know I feel
like that’s something that you continue to maintain
throughout your life, and I feel like it’s taught me a lot. So, for me, I got to a
point where I had a daughter at 23, and I continued to exercise, and then I had some life stuff going on and I ended up kind of
burning out a little bit and had adrenal fatigue, my stress levels went through the roof, and so that then put my body into fatigue and I started to develop
like chronic fatigue, and then I had like mold illness, ’cause I got exposed to mold, I had all this health stuff going on, and a lot of like emotional stress, it was all these traumas
that were like coming up from like my last like 10 years, I had this specific event that kind of triggered all that stuff. So I kind of went from
being like super fit and like super like energetic to just like not being able to just function every day. And so I’ve kind of been
working with naturopaths and things like that, and so I’ve kind of gone from having a way of expressing myself
to all of a sudden not. And I’ve gone through
life where I’ve kind of been exercising out of fear and out of like, you
know, not liking my body and trying to escape. However, you know, I also loved it, I was really passionate
and I’m really aligned with being fit and healthy and strong. So it was kind of like a bit
of a, you know, I couldn’t… It was a bit of a conflict
for me personally. And so I had to give my
body a bit of a break. So I really had to sort of
step, take the step back and so it’s kind of just been
for me, joining MerryBody, it’s like I needed it,
I wasn’t allowed to do high impact exercise and so I needed a way to get my body strong again. So I went from being super
strong in like, you know, core strength, all this stuff to then sort of going
right back to the beginning and I think MerryBody has
just completely supported me in every way, like because
you’ve also got Pilates and the yoga and the mindset
side of things as well. So it kind of gives me
my space to just zone out and just yeah, and so I started off doing yoga first just to sort of build that strength back. And yeah, it’s amazing,
I’ve been doing it everyday for the last, I think probably
seven months, six months. And my strength and just
the changes in my body have been great, so it’s been
like a really great foundation for me to build that strength. My daughter actually does it as well. She’s seven, nearly eight. So she’s kind of watching
me do the exercises and just showing up to the mat everyday. It’s got to the point where
she’s actually walking through Kmart, and she found these
little like tight leggings and a little like sports little top. She’s like, “I might use
these as my yoga clothes.” and so now she does the
stretching with me. (laughs) the yoga, and her deep breathing and all that stuff. And whenever I’m like
namaste, she’s like namaste, like (laughs), so it’s yeah. I guess it’s a great
example for her as well. For me I used to love, I used to enjoy, I still enjoy going to a
gym, I just haven’t been to a gym in a while, and I sort of, my
lifestyle like has changed. My partner works, you
know, evenings and that and so I’ve got my daughter, and so being able to get up
at five thirty in the morning and just go take my time
downstairs, to do the yoga or the Pilates or the meditations and things like that. Or of an evening, it’s
allowed me to just incorporate that exercise back into
my life without sort of having to try juggle so many things. It’s just that flexibility. I travel for work as well, so
I just take the app with me and I’ll just start doing yoga in the, or the Pilates in the hotel room. Or in bed, like if I’m just laying in bed doing a stretch or whatever. So it’s enabled me to
have that flexibility to take that lifestyle and it’s something that I
don’t have to think about. Like you guys have it all sorted. Everything’s there in one spot and I don’t have to kind
of think about all that. And another thing I think is that, you guys don’t take it so seriously, like which is really refreshing. Like I find myself having a giggle, like there’s times where
you guys like laugh or say something or just
you know, make a comment that’s just, you guys keep it really real, and I think that’s really so important. So, I think that’s great. (upbeat music)
