Rediscover Me Day 17 | Food

Rediscover Me Day 17 | Food

Good Morning, Happy Monday! I’m feeling
sorry for myself this morning because everybody is off today – Craig and Ava got
to sleep in and I didn’t play on the day off but that’s my own fault because I’m
my own boss and I can do that if I want but I didn’t that’s okay because I love
doing coffee chat and I wanted to be with you guys this morning so we’re
gonna talk about food today! Yay!! Food is my favorite subject on planet
earth – I love food and that’s why I get into trouble with food because I want to
eat all the foods all the time but we’re gonna talk a little bit about this
because it is our Health and Wellness Week for the Rediscover Me Challenge and
and I have some tips and tricks that might help you out that I use in my own
life and I had to implement this yesterday because I was like okay I’m
talking about healthy eating tomorrow and I am definitely not the poster child
for this right now in any way shape or form we had one of those weekend’s it
was like so my mom’s birthday was on Saturday and we went to a French
restaurant and had brunch and it was amazing there was so many good things on
there and I had dedicated myself like every week you know I talked about
hitting the reset button all the time so I decided on Friday I’m like gonna do
better this weekend even though we have a lot of stuff going on I can make the
choices and then I get there and the buffet was like so tempting and there were
so many good things on there so I did over indulge a little bit on Saturday
but yeah and I’ve been tacos on a weekly basis not gonna lie if you watch my
stories every Tuesday our family goes to Taco Tuesday at Rosa’s Cafe which is
right down the street and they have this amazing taco special and I just cannot
give up my Taco Tuesdays and I’m not going to I’m not giving up I
talk it so anyway I try to do better on the other days of the week but
wintertime can be a challenge for a lot of us right I mean it’s like cold
weather just makes you want to make those choices for comfort food and a lot
of us are going through that right now where it’s a little bit of a struggle
you know for the first year you might want to hit the
set button and say I’m gonna I’m gonna focus on healthy eating or I’m gonna go
on a diet and then the weather stays cold so you have little to no motivating
factors for doing that so I’m gonna talk today about some things that have worked
in my personal life and maybe will work for you too I not gonna lie just started
implementing this yesterday we do her grocery shopping on Sunday this week I
usually try to do it on Saturday but it was probably a good thing that we waited
until Sunday because I was able to step back and plan the trip, out plan the
meals for the week, and then do some shopping with a purpose when it
comes to food I talk about doing that all the time with clothes right but not
so much with food so I think honestly it’s weird but you can take the same
concepts that I teach through GYPO Style Challenges and applied them to healthy
eating and shopping for food and that’s kind of what I do so Step One is you’re
gonna clean out your pantry and your fridge and I know this is not a fun task
I try to do this on a weekly basis because just being totally honest like
our leftovers collect in the fridge all week long I want to get better about
leftovers but we’re not very good about them and they need to be cleaned out and
I have to go through the pantry and get rid of anything you know that’s expired
or like bread or cereal or whatever that’s that has dried out, it is no
longer good so I try to do that first and that’s really step one in my weekly
meal planning and shopping trips so I go through and clean everything out and
this is a good opportunity to if there’s something in there that you know it’s
going to be a temptation to you that it’s junk food or it’s something that is
gonna trip you up and your healthy eating then go ahead and just get rid of
it because if it’s not easily accessible then you’re not going to just reach for
it mindlessly and start eating it I have to do this I can’t have the temptations
around I have to get rid of them and just throw everything away that I know
it’s gonna trip me up so that’s step one it’s just cleaning everything out then
step two is to do your meal planning for the week so there are a few ways that I
do this I like eating well calm you haven’t used them
before they have all different kinds of meal plans in there no matter what
you’re trying to do whether you’re trying to count calories for weight loss
or you want to do something like a keto plan or you know like low carb or high
protein or you’re on a diabetic diet they have everything there that you can
imagine so I like to go through there and choose some recipes that look good
and are pretty simple. I’m not a complicated recipe person if it requires
more than 10 to 15 minutes of prep it’s off the table so you have to make it
easy if you are out buying a bunch of healthy foods but knowing that when you
get home you’re gonna have tons of prep ahead of you
that’s gonna make it harder so really carve out time to do this and make it as
easy and effortless as possible so you know Step Two is to do your meal
planning, Step Three obviously is to create your grocery list. I love using my
Alexa because I can just call out and she’s lighting up right now on my desk. I
can call out all the ingredients I’ll sit there with my recipes in my hand and
just call them out to be added to my shopping list automatically pull them up
on my phone when I get to the store and it makes it super easy so make out your
ingredient list and then the Third and Final step in this process is when you
get home and this is why I like to do this on Sundays because we usually go
Sunday afternoon after we’ve gone to church and had lunch when we’re not
starving because that’s key to don’t go to the store starving you guys already
know this but when I reckon home I start to prep so last night I made a big pot
of chili in the instant pot and chili can be really healthy you can make it
with ground turkey you can make it with lean ground beef I put in tons of good
beans like black beans and garbanzo beans and you know obviously kidney
beans but we will eat chili leftovers throughout the week that’s one of the
things we actually eat our leftovers from so I made a huge pot of chili we
had it for dinner last night and while the chili was cooking I took
some vegetables, sweet potatoes, red bell pepper and
red, yellow, and orange bell pepper, onions and a chicken sausage and I diced it all
up into equal sized chunks tossed it in olive oil put in a little bit of onion
powder and some smoked paprika and popped it in the oven to make sheet pan
meals so that cooked at 450 for about 30 minutes and then I separated it out into
containers individual containers and Craig and I have lunches this week that
we can just grab easy quick healthy lunches so that’s another thing that
really helps out if I’m ahead of the game and actually do the meal prepping
on Sundays it’s so much easier just to grab the meals out of the fridge but you
really have to find what works well for you what’s gonna work in your system and
I know I have a picky kid. Ava hates everything except Whataburger and
Jersey Mike’s so that makes it really difficult for me to cook at home I hate
this I have to try to get inventive but she’ll eat things like meatloaf and pork
chops and there are a few things that I cook at home that she will actually eat
so I have to really take that into account too in ways that we can modify
the meals so that there’s something there that’s healthy for her too so you
know I totally get that that it’s difficult to get the whole family on
board when you’re doing something like this fortunately Craig isn’t too picky
and if I say he ever gonna clean up her meals this week and we’re gonna eat a
little bit healthier he’s a okay with that so that doesn’t make it easier but
I do understand that you could have a spouse or kids that maybe don’t want to
come along on this healthy meal train with you and if that’s the case then
it’s okay you will have a little bit of extra prep work to do but it will be
totally worth it even if you’re having meals for yourself and then cooking
something else for them or having them make something else for themselves you
can find ways to make the healthy eating plan work for you and one other thing
that I suggest is if you’re not quite sure where you want to start that I
mentioned this in the video shopping the perimeter of the store is generally
where all the good food is so think produce and lean meats and you know
dairy and the good stuff is on the perimeter the processed foods are the
things that are in the center in the freezer section you know like
boxed crackers and bags french fries and all that stuff is what’s processed so if
you keep most of your shopping on the perimeter of the store then you’re going
to be buying real food real ingredients whole food and those are the things that
are gonna fuel your body better especially as you start to embark upon
you know an exercise routine think about your food as fuel whenever I’m getting
ready to workout I think about what I’m gonna put in my body beforehand and
afterwards because beforehand is what I’m gonna be using for the fuel through
the workout and then afterwards is going to be what’s refueling my body so it’s
very helpful to think of things in that way and it’s also really helpful to
allow yourself if you’re like me and you love dark chocolate I need dark
chocolate every single day of my life or wine or bread whatever it may be is
to allow yourself to have those things I think deprivation is the hardest part of
embarking on something like this and it’s also the thing that makes us want
to revert back and if you do revert back it’s okay, build in space for a little
bit of margin build in space for the things that you love because I mean food
is such an important part of life it’s so delicious and you should be able to
enjoy the things that you love and I think that you can still do that and
stay within your goals if calories are one of the things that trip you up
download an app like Fitness Pal it’s amazing it has every food in there
imaginable if you go out to dinner you can look up a meal beforehand and when I
get really really serious about cutting calories or you know I feel like it’s
time that I need to really hit the reset button and Fitness Pal is a super
accountability partner because I can plan my meals out before I even go like
if we’re going to Panera I’ll log into the app choose what I’m going to eat and
put it in there and then I know when I go there and order that that it’s
already taken care of and I have my calories for the day accounted for in
there so I find that super helpful but there are a lot of different apps and
tools that you can use now that help to really guide your decisions and help you
to track things regular basis so I highly recommend
downloading one of those so I want to hear from you guys what is working for
you what diet plans or meal plans or what makes this easier because honestly
at the end of the day we want this to be as easy as possible we want this to be a
no-brainer we want this to be a system that we can build into our lives just
like anything else if it’s not easy we’re not going to do it we’re not gonna
stick with it and if you don’t like veggies or fruits
I don’t like fruit that’s a terrible thing I do admit but I don’t I just
don’t like it there are very few fruits that I like so I struggle with this area
and I try to compensate by eating more vegetables because I do like those but
what are some ways that you are able to implement healthy eating and stick with
it honestly I think sticking with it is the hardest part so do share those with
our community share them in our private Facebook group I would love to hear your
ideas and suggestions and tomorrow we’re gonna be back with our Day 18 discussion
and continuing our healthy living week and I would love to hear how the baby
steps are working out for you is this a good way to implement things by just
kind of layering in a step each day and is that helping you to feel a little
less overwhelmed just do let me know so thanks for tuning in on this Monday you
guys are having an awesome day if you have a day off enjoy I will see you back
here tomorrow morning, bye!!
