Self Healing With Meditation

Self Healing With Meditation

There’s the resonance of your voice, kind
of like that … You have that little vibration thing … Because people can hear deeper tones then
they can high pitched ones [crosstalk 00:00:00:10]. Hi, I’m Darnell Cox with Live Young Lifestyle
and I’m here today with medical doctor turned transformational life coach and healer, Doctor
Nikki Starr. Thank you so much for being here. Thank you so much for having me. So tell me a little bit about what you do,
because you were in the standard medical profession and then went rogue. So I was always drawn to helping people, and
healing people, and I was fascinated with the human body. So it was natural to go into medicine. And so I became a doctor and I was in the
hospital and you learn all about the physical body and the mind. And then when I was in the hospital I started
realizing, wait a minute, these prescription pills, I’m not sure if this is really going
to heal them or cure them. And then people would come back and their
problems would still be there. Right. And I did medical missions in third world
countries and I saw alternative healing ways. Okay. So then I started being like, “Oh well there’s
so many ways to healing.” Here are these people living close to the
earth, and this old woman is 90 years old and she’s farming and has all this corn on
her back and she’s smiling. And here are the 90 year olds in a nursing
home people are forgetting about [crosstalk 00:01:26], yeah, so then it was like, okay,
maybe I need to do something else. And that’s where this conversation is going
because there is a lot in anti-aging that has to do with energy and meditation. So talk to me a little bit about some of your
meditation practices. So all meditation is actually anti-aging for
many reasons. One, just from the perspective that we shared
of how it decreases stress levels in the body, but also connected to that is that we don’t
end up squinting as much when we’re angry or stressed or [crosstalk 00:02:06] the brow. So we do less of that when we’re feeling serene
and calm, and we start to radiate love. The other thing that they found in studies
was that, so as we age, we have our DNA and on the end of our DNA strands, there’s something
called telomeres. And these shorten, I’m sure you know- Yeah, people try to sell pills to help that
situation. Well, you can just do a love and kindness
meditation. Oh, okay. Yeah, and this kind of meditation is about
sending, it’s really raising your vibration to feel so much love that it’s overflowing
out of you. And then sending this love out into the world;
to your family and friends, to the plants, to the animals. And it’s really this peaceful, loving meditation. And they found that it helps in those, the
ends your DNA. So that helps with longevity. Exactly. Wow. And on top of that, you feel amazing. You’re radiating love, you’re shining. And this is another aspect to anti-aging. It’s not so much about how old you are, but
it’s really of how are you functioning in the world? And when you’re bright and you’re shining
and you’re magnetic, people can’t help but be drawn to you. And that’s really what anti-aging is about. It’s being youthful and vital. So when you are exuding so much positivity
and so much light, this is really what we’re after. It’s more about the vitality. And the best version of yourself. I think that that’s important because the
viewers of the show, they range from like 20 years old to 60 years old. They’re all over the place. But everybody is wanting to look and feel
their best. And so that’s what this show is about. And so by meditating, you’re relaxing everything. So it’s putting a lot less stress on your
face. How do you carry that on throughout the day? So one of the things that meditation helps
with is bringing self awareness. So for example, as you start to sit and listen
to yourself, in this space throughout the day, you start to notice like, oh, my shoulders
are up here. So then I’m going to relax my shoulders. Oh, I’m furrowing my brow. So you start to choose to relax in every day,
and there’s guided, conscious [crosstalk 00:04:27]. I don’t know how that happened. So part of meditation, too, is helping us
sleep better. And when we’re not carrying all this stress,
even a lot of this kind of posturing comes from stress accumulation. So to really help our posture it’s about ridding
[crosstalk 00:04:48]. This is like a non-breathing pose, but if
everything is opened, that is somebody who’s used to taking deep breaths through meditation
or exercise. Exactly. So there is also breath meditations, even
belly breathing where for 10 minutes you set an alarm and you lay down and you breathe
into your belly. So you’re really expanding from the- Where you can feel it rise. Exactly. and you just let everything rise
and you hold it at the top, and so you are expanding from the inside out, and then you
exhale, let it all out, and again hold at the bottom. And doing this for 10 minutes, this is releasing
tension from the body, stress from the body. You need less sleep when you do this because
you’re doing all this processing. Because actually when you sleep it’s a time
for metabolism. It’s actually not a time where you’re consciously
relaxing. Right. So this is [crosstalk 00:05:42]. There’s a lot going on when you’re sleeping,
that’s why you need your eight hours. Mm-hmm (affirmative), and they find, sometimes
when I’m really highly meditated, I only need like six hours and I’m up and I’m ready to
go. And I’m so inspired with all my tasks and
things that I’m doing, creating in the world. So it’s really- Because you’ve had probably a deeper sleep. Mm-hmm (affirmative). It’s like people that exercise as well, if
you exercise on a regular basis, you sleep deeper. You sleep faster, you sleep deeper, your stress
is less. It’s probably, it’s the same for meditation. Yes. Because it also helps with how we are seeing
the world, the way our brain is functioning, it really optimizes how we function in the
world. So this is a type of self healing, because
you’re a healer. So by meditating, by teaching people to meditate,
you’re teaching them to self heal. Exactly. I love that. And people start to feel energies. And another reason why people feel less stressed
when they meditate, personally, I believe it’s because life becomes more clear. You’re not thinking like, am I supposed to
do this or am I supposed to do this? You just start to know the answer. You start to really listen to yourself. You slow down, you’re not as reactive, you’re
not as pushy. You’re kind of allowing life to come to you. If you want to sit in your queen seat, it’s
like meditate. I love that. I need a queen seat. Yeah, and even visualizing you becoming the
magnet for all that you want to attract into your life, so you’re not out there making
it happen. Stress and working so hard. It’s like, do less, receive more. Now what about the people out there that I
know are going to say, “I’ve tried to meditate. I can’t meditate.” There are people that they have a hard time
doing that. You know, when I first started meditating
I’d sit there and automatically I’m thinking, What do I need to get at the grocery store
or what’s going on with certain kids? So there are people that it’s very hard for
them to do that. Did you have any suggestions for … I mean,
is it just practice? Keep trying? Actually, first is let’s debunk, what is meditation? So meditation is a concentration practice. So what that means is a one point of focus. Let’s say if you’re doing the love and kindness,
in that meditation, your focus is on sending this love out into the world. So then your mind is occupied, you are busy
doing something, so you don’t really have the time to have those thoughts. So if, let’s say, you’re doing a very simple
meditation, like just focusing on your breath and breathing deeply … Yes, and maybe you’re
getting bored like, oh, I’m doing this so much so then my mind wanders, but then you’re
like, oh wait, I’m having this thought. Okay. And then I just come back. Come back to the breath. So it’s like going to the gym. You know how you strengthen your muscles,
the more that you do it? That’s why it’s called a meditation practice. And there’s some seatings where, for 10 minutes
you might be great, or maybe one seating for one minute, your attention. Right. But then it’s okay. It’s like, okay, so that time I didn’t meditate
as well. But the fact that you slowed down and you
still receive the benefits, believe it or not. Yeah, I first started getting into it more
seriously when I found walking meditation, which is, I don’t know if I’ve explained it
in a post before, which is when you walk and every step that you take, associate it with
an inhale or an exhale. So it’s very much like a Vinyasa Flow for
yoga, where every movement has that breath. And I felt like, it’s kind of like rubbing
your tummy and patting your head. Wow, I just did that right, that was a miracle. But walking meditation is like that. Doing those two things; walking and not falling
and the breath. It was really hard to have my thoughts go
somewhere else. But I really liked what you said about, if
maybe the breath, somebody can’t keep their focus on the breath, the focus on the intention
of love, or the intention of some other, whatever other type of healing that there is. It might be a way that might be a little bit
easier for people than just sitting there focusing on their breath. Yes. And also sound meditations help people a lot
too. So you know those little metal singing bowls. I have one right over there, it’s on the table. So playing that is keeping … There’s something
about the sound of the metal ringing. That’s the moment that the silence comes for
people, and they can listen to their intuition or however they’re feeling guided, or just
have a moment of pause. But it does something to the cells in the
brain and the thoughts stop. So that’s another way, too, that really helps. And even, let’s say, connected to Alzheimer’s
and the mass of our brain, so they actually find that it increases your brain mass. So even … What they did is they did brain
functioning and even showing that you use more parts of your brain when you meditate. So it, is in terms of preventing, which is
such an issue with people getting dementia. So As a way to prevent that. Like, oh I’m getting old and forgetting things. Yes. Meditation is really great to prevent that
too. Because we want to be high functioning. Absolutely. [crosstalk 00:10:59] in a nursing home. Absolutely. We want to remember our children’s names and
like what we did last year and it’s interesting that meditation can actually help improve
that, because you would think if your brain was all over the place, like mine is half
the time, that you’d be thinking about all these different things and that would light
up an MRI more than if you were actually having that focal point of thought. Well how it also helps you too is that, I
feel that it gives you super powers. So what I mean by that, [crosstalk 00:11:32]
who doesn’t want superpowers? In the sense that it makes you more intuitive
and psychic and it’s like time starts to slow down and you tend to arrive everywhere on
time. Life just happens more gracefully when you
start to meditate. Because for me, I feel as we’re starting to
connect life at an energetic level, because everything is energy first. You know, even modern science is saying this,
and you look at quantum physics. We are energy too, and we have a whole energy
field, and there’s meditations that even support us in … Just like you brush her teeth, clearing
your energy fields. And this too makes you feel lighter and brighter. So there’s so- That’s why people sage and do all of that
kind of stuff, to clear that all out. Exactly. And that too, personally, I feel like you
will feel younger and lighter if you use those techniques. Which, I use them. I use them. I do a smudging on clients and they’re like
… What does that mean, a smudging? I would have brought my smudge feather to
show you. Am I going to get smudged? So it’s been around since … Native tribes
even still use it. So even before Western Medicine, smudging
was around where you use the allies of plants and animals, meaning the animal of the birds,
like the energy in like a … Native Americans have used it. Right, right, right. And so what you do is with that, and then
you burn sage or palo santo or an incense stick, there’s even studies that show the
smoke from these plants kills bacteria in the air. So when you use the feather with this smoke,
and you do like a cleansing, it’s like a clearing of your aura. People feel lighter, even their faces look
more relaxed after doing … Wow, maybe no more need for Botox. I need to be smudged. Please smudge me all over. And so this is all connected to energy. I like to call it energy medicine. So when we’re really healing our energy, we
feel great. And this is really connected to our vitality. So it’s basically … it’s mind, body, spirit. It’s like the whole package. Mm-hmm (affirmative). I love that. So where can our viewers find you? So my website is Dr Nikki Starr, D-R N-I-K-K-I

to step away from everything else that’s going on in the world, and you take that time to
meditate and heal. I think that that’s a really good way to live
young. Exactly. Yeah. This has been great. Thank you so much. Thank you.
