TOMORROW IS A SPECIAL DAY FOR TERRY COOPER. SHE WILL BE CELEBRATING 13 YEARS CLEAN AND SOBER. SHE IS DETERMINED TO SHARE IT WITH AS MANY PEOPLE ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY. ANCHOR LAUREN PASTRANA HAS HER STORY. TAKE A DEEP BREATH IN. Reporter: FOR TERRY COOPER, EVERY BREATH IS A GIFT. SHE MANAGED TO FIND PEACE AND HAPPINESS AFTER ALMOST LOSING HER LIFE TO DRUGS AND ALCOHOL. I HAD AN ADDICTION PROBLEM. AND I WOULD USE DRUGS AND ALCOHOL AS A WAY TO KIND OF NUMB OUT AND NOT HAVE TO FEEL. Reporter: TERRY WAS A BARTENDER, WORKING ON SOUTH BEACH, SPIRALING OUT OF CONTROL, SUFFOCATED BY DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY. SHE TURNED TO SUBSTANCE ABUSE TO EASE THE PAIN. LIKE ALL ADDICTS YOU HIT A ROCK BOTTOM MOMENT. I KNEW I HAD TO CHANGE MY LIFE OR I WAS GOING TO END MY LIFE. Reporter: BUT TERRY SET A GOAL. AFTER A TWO-WEEK BENDNER 2003 WHEN SHE DID MORE DRUGS THAN SHE HAD HER ENTIRE LIFE, SOMETHING CHANGED. SOMEHOW SEPTEMBER 1 I WOKE UP. I WAS LIKE OH MAN, I HAVE TO CHANGE MY LIFE NOW. I DID. I STARTED GOING TO FREE YOGA CLASSES ON THE BEACH. I WAS A HOT MESS. THERE WERE DAYS WHERE I WAS ANGRY AND DAYS WHERE I WAS FULL OF GRIEF AND CRYING. Reporter: SHE PUSHED THROUGH THE TEARS AND EVENTUALLY FOUND WHAT SHE HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR, ALL ALONG. AT THAT TIME I BEGAN TO REALIZE MY LIFE HAS VALUE IF I CAN SPEND MY TIME MAKING OTHER PEOPLE’S LIVES A LITTLE BETTER. Reporter: SHE HAS BEEN DID GO THAT EVER SINCE. TERRY STARTED TEACHING YOGA, SHE TAUGHT TO WOMEN IN CRISIS WHO NEEDED TO FULFILL COURT- ORDERED COMMUNITY SERVICE AND TO TEENS AT THE JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER. TERRY CREATED CONNECTION COALITION TO BRING YOGA, MINDFULNESS TO SCHOOLS AND SHELTERS. SHE HAS A NETWORK OF MORE THAN 800 VOLUNTEERS TEACHING TO THOUSANDS OF KIDS AND TEENS. ALL OF IT IS ENERGY ALL THE TIME. IT IS UP TO US TO CHOOSE EVERY DAY WHETHER THEY ARE GOING TO USE OUR ENERGY TO MAKE OTHER PEOPLE’S LIVES BETTER OR MORE CHALLENGING. Reporter: TERRY SAYS YOGA SAVED HER LIFE. IT GAVE HER THE STRENGTH TO SURVIVE HER DARKEST DAYS AND THE ABILITY TO FOCUS ON THE BRIGHT FUTURE AHEAD. IT IS ABOUT HEALING FROM THE EVENTS OF OUR PAST. AND IT IS ABOUT OPENING UP TO THE POSSIBILITY OF WHAT OUR FUTURE CAN HOLD. WE WISH HER MANY MORE YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS. HER COLLECTION COALITION IS CURRENTLY ON A TOUR TEACHING
