Wellness Moment: Chair Yoga Episode 1 – Deep Abdominal Breathing

– Hi, I’m Jane and this
is your “Wellness Moment.” (pulsing tense music) (telephone chirping) Yeah, I’ll get it, thanks. (telephone chirping) (sighs) What? – [Jennifer] Whoa, Jane! What’s wrong? – I’m sorry, I’m just really stressed out. I’ve gotta get reports. I’ve got deadlines. I had a flat tire this morning. And later today, I’ve
gotta get to the dentist. – [Jennifer] Sounds to me
like some deep breathing would be helpful. – Yes, help me now. (Jane whooshes)
(bell rings) Oh my gosh, – Wow.
– I didn’t know yoga could do that. – Glad you could join us. – I’m glad, too, thank you. – You look a little stressed. – I’m more than a little stressed. – Wow, glad you’re here. – [Jane] Thank you. – So maybe we can help with that. Little deep abdominal breathing. – That sounds good. – Yeah, it’s a great yoga
technique to reduce stress. So I’ll teach you how. – Great. – So maybe just have
your back nice and tall and your feet planted on the floor. Arms rested, hands relaxed. And you might close your eyes and just kinda let yourself
relax into your space noticing your natural breath. (gentle music) And once you get into that space, you might deepen your breath. And take one hand to your abdomen, just kinda as you’re inhaling deeply, maybe six to eight counts, you might expand the belly against your hand, filling the belly up. And as you’re exhaling long and slow, drawing your belly back
towards your spine. And maybe six or eight
counts on that exhale, too. And you might repeat that
maybe five to 10 times, just kind of feeling yourself relax. – I can already feel how relaxing this is. – Oh great. Good, so some of the benefits are just reducing the
stress response in the body. People use this quite a bit
in different situations. It helps to fall asleep at night, too. And it takes a little practice, but once we start to practice it, we get used to it and it really helps. – Well I feel more
relaxed and a lot calmer. – I guess you could get
back to work now, right? – I think so. – Better go.
(bell rings) I have no idea where she went, but please come back for more wellness moments and yoga tips. Seriously, you guys, where did she go? (upbeat music)
