Now we’re moving to our Experiential Showers. The Experiential Showers? Yes. I saw 2 ways to shower over there. Then there’s 3 more. So there are more ways to shower? Okay. Generally when we think about gyms, we think
about all the standard stuff. But for some gyms, standard just doesn’t cut it anymore.
So they’ve up their game to offer a different level of experience. Whether you work out
or not, what’s inside these gyms may surprise you. I’m here at Virgin Active, one of Singapore’s
most luxurious gyms, to check out their facilities. Just in an event that you are tired, or you
need to wind down from work during lunch time, we have our Sleep Pods here. Have a look. Is it always booked? During lunch time? Yes. There are even members who only come here for the Sleep Pods. I don’t wanna leave… but we have to see the rest of the gym. So this is the Immersive Cycle Studio. And I’ve never seen anything like this. In this room, there’s a huge screen and I would love to watch a movie here and not exercise. Kidding. We’re here to work out. Once, I went for a spin class, and I remember
that the instructor was asking me to stand and sit and stand and sit. Then I just kept
standing and sitting, and I kinda bruised my… down there. It was very painful. I’ve had
very bad experiences with spinning, so hopefully this will make it a lot better. Yeah, this is quite a surreal experience.
I don’t even feel tired. It’s really immersive. If you go for a spin class, you will just
kind of want the class to be over as soon. But over here I’m just so focused on moving
forward, I actually forget that I’m exercising. Here you can see all the normal treadmill
stuff, however we do have one where we call a Curve, a manual powered treadmill. How it
works is it uses your own force to move the whole belt. Start by walking. Oh my gosh. So when you’re comfortable, just let go and
start jogging. There, you got it. I feel like a hamster on a wheel! Compared to a normal treadmill, this is a lot more difficult because you’re almost on
an incline, and you really have to find your pace. I’m going to do a sprint. But it’s so much more difficult and I believe you probably burn a lot more calories doing this. So this machine is called the Abductor Machine. What you do is that you push your legs open, and what it does is that it works your glutes
and your outer thighs. If you are just, y’know, tired and laying back, and someone walks by and
you give them a look, I don’t know… You just have to be careful where your eyes go. Basically when you come to this gym, you just
have to bring your shoes. We have the shirts, shorts and socks. Absolutely no excuse not
to go to the gym. This is the female changing room. So we have 24 shower cubicles over here to
make sure that everyone is accommodated. Wait, what’s this?
This is a clothes dryer. Press it like this and it’s gonna dry it. Oh my goodness. Instead of going under the hairdryer, you
put ’em inside. We provide shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
And all of these brands are PAÑPURI. This is like being used in Shangri-La in Thailand,
so it’s a very premium brand. And I see there’s a rain shower?
Yes you have 2 options. You can either go for rain shower. Or some people don’t want
their hair to get wet, so you can either go for half a body. I’ll bring you to now to our relaxing recovery area. Oh my gosh. Yeah, this is our foot bath area. So you can
just soak your feet in a cold or warm water. The only thing that is missing here is a manicurist
and pedicurist on duty. Yeah, they come here like 2 or 3 times a week.
So apart from that, you can either choose between a back massage or foot massage. So do I have to pay extra for any of these services? No, it’s part of your membership. I’m bringing you to our Hot and Cold Therapy area. So after your serious workout, you want serious
recovery and relaxation. So you can either go to our Steam Room. This one is 42 degrees,
it’s gonna help you detox and open your pores, Yeah. Oh wow, it’s so warm. After you’re done with our Steam Room, then
you can just go to the Ice Room. Now we’re moving to our Experiential Showers.
The Experiential Showers? Yes, I’ll let you know why, because it’s a
different way to shower. I saw 2 ways to shower over there, there are
more ways to shower? Then there’s 3 more. That’s correct, so let me just show you over here. Do you remember the Facebook ALS Ice
Bucket Challenge? So you can just do it to yourself. You just have to pull this. It is
really a cold water bucket, so it’s a refreshing way to cool down after you do your workout. And what does it help me with? So when you do cardio, you’ll feel very sweaty
and you want to go relax very quickly, then you can go for it.
Yeah, I think this is just really great for a midday pick-me-up, y’know in between work.
We got one more way to shower. Last way to shower?
There’s 2 more actually. So we have this Water Paradise area. If you’re someone who’s very afraid of one-shot of the water bucket, then you can go for a mist. And this one goes with
eucalyptus and mint. So the change of colour kinda sets the mood. Okay. So as you can see, there are 3 stations and
you need to walk through it. And this is the second shower?
Exactly, and this one has mint. So you can smell the aroma oil infused in it.
But it’s warm, it’s nice and warm. This one’s cool, and this is a warmer temperature.
Yes, so it starts with cold, warm, and followed by cold again.
Oh! And it’s a different water pressure as well. That’s correct. And the third one will be the eucalyptus. Alright, so we’re at the final stage of another way to shower. The grand finale shower?
Exactly. So we’ve got Cold Breeze Shower on this side, and we’ve got Tropical Rain Shower.
Press these buttons. Wow, I do smell some mint? This is very very calming. You can also go for a Tropical Rain Shower.
You will know how it feels like having a shower in the jungle. This is how it is. I can smell the aroma, and I can actually feel it in my hands as well.
My hands feel a lot softer. We’re now going to our Salt Room. That big
pink block is a big block of Himalayan salt. People would just lie down inside and inhale
the salt, which is good for your skin and for the respiratory system. And I thought the sleeping pods was a lot, this takes an afternoon siesta to a whole
different level. You know what will be really nice? After a
cold shower and you sit very near the heat. It’s so relaxing. And also, this wall is actually
very nice for an Instagram photo. Instead of just a mirror selfie y’know,
you take a photo in front of a beautiful pink Himalayan Salt wall. My overall thoughts on this gym. I have never ever experience a gym like this before. Ultimately, I think that this is more than just a gym.
It is a lifestyle club. The membership fee is about $65 a week, with no commitment. It does get cheaper if you do buy the package. But overall, it is a premium price to pay
as far as gym memberships go in Singapore. If you’re paying the price for a spa, lounge
and a gym, and you truly make this space your second home, then I think it might be worth
the splurge. I’m actually a pretty simple person when it
comes to working out, so as long as I got my weights, and my standard machines then
it’s good enough for me. If you’re not ready to spend on a gym membership
here, what they do have is something called the ‘Run Club’. And regardless of whether
or not you’re a member here, you can sigh-up for weekly organised group runs around the
CBD. For more information you can check out the link below. That’s all for today! Click the subscribe
