WIM HOF COLD SHOWER – HOW COLD SHOWERS AFFECT THE MIND!

We’ve covered Cold Showers a number of times
on the channel and discussed it’s various health benefits. However, one area we don’t always focus on
and should do so is its effects on the brain, as studies have shown it can have some interesting
effects and may benefit you in ways you didn’t imagine. Therefore, in this video we look at the effects
cold showers have on the brain and how it may benefit you… 1. Helps Mental Performance
– When you take a cold shower, it has numerous interesting effects in how your body reacts
to the cold, as your body immediately has to adapt
– Because of this, the sudden rush of cold water helps to speed up your heart, which
is coping with the stress placed on your body, and it makes you take in more oxygen
– Now, oxygen is obviously a necessity for survival, but it also helps to improve and
increase brain function, meaning as you take in more oxygen, you’re setting yourself up
to be mentally more active – This will set you up for a day full of success,
as you’ve given yourself a boost to perform at your peak in the space of minutes, giving
you a little head start on others 2. Helps Manage Depression
– So it might seem strange that cold showers help control depression, but there are some
biological findings that back this idea up – You see, when you take a cold shower, it
activates the sympathetic nervous system, increasing the blood level of beta-endorphins
and noradrenaline – In addition to this, norepinephrine is also
released, which is a neurotransmitter that helps to make people feel naturally happier
– Finally, due to the high density of cold receptors in the skin, a cold shower will
send an huge amount of electrical impulses from peripheral nerve endings to the brain,
which could result in an anti-depressive effect 3. Reduce Anxiety
– As with depression, people struggling with anxiety disorders may also hugely benefit
from the effects of taking regular cold showers – A study was done where people struggling
with anxiety were given balneotherapy treatment, which is treatment by bathing in mineral springs
– What was found was that those getting balneotherapy showed significant improvements to their anxiety,
with no reported side effects of the treatment – In addition to this, not only did they show
great results, but remission rates were lower and sustained response higher, meaning it
was an effective long term treatment 4. Helps You Relax
– A quick cold showermay have the ability to relax your stressful moments, as we previously
touched on why with the last couple of points – In addition to what’s already been said,
cold showers can also increase the glutathione present in the blood and help to reduce uric
acid – This combination can help you feel and be
more relaxed, as when combined with the various other chemical changes taking place in the
body, it helps boost your feeling of happiness – It’s also a method that helps to calm you
and your state, meaning when stressed and emotional, it can serve to help calm your
nerves and help you think more clearly 5. Increase Confidence
– Again, not one you’d naturally link to cold showers, but they can help you feel more confident
about yourself and about your life – The reason is that cold showers help produce
testosterone, which studies have shown is reduced from the heat of warm showers that
can change our DNA – With an increase in testosterone, one of
the biggest effects it can have, in addition to help increase muscle growth, is to give
you a boost in natural confidence – So take cold showers, and in addition to
the multitude of physical benefits it can have, reap the benefits it also has on your
mental health and performance Did you know of the effects of cold showers
