So imagine after an hour of a yoga class how you might feel! Some come and have a try! before you came in – guaranteed! You’ll probably finish the class feeling amazing, or at least a little bit better than you did It’s on Wednesday afternoon at OTR Perry Road at 4.15pm for one hour. Hi, I’m Lel and I’m the Yoga Teacher at OTR on Wednesday afternoons. by 15%. It’s not about beautiful yoga people, it’s not about being flexible. Everyone’s welcome – it’s just about good mental health. for two minutes, your levels of cortisol drop So if you’re doing something like this, which we might do in yoga which is your stress hormone – will dramatically drop. Your levels of cortisol – saying “Everything’s safe, no need to fear”. it’s sending a message to your brain, When your body is in this position, when it feels safe. and playful, it will lie on its back like this – if you think about a dog when it’s really happy When you open your body like this is through your endocrine system – your hormones basically. The other way yoga does this and using your body. using your breath “Everything’s OK!” so you can actually affect how you feel when saying “Don’t panic!” If you slow your breath right down, that sends a message to your brain and that will send a message to your brain. and do it the other way. what you can do is reverse that process something or someone helps you calm down With yoga, instead of waiting until and your breath slows back down again. When you finally calm down, your shoulders drop a little bit – your breath is probably quite high up and quite fast. if you think about when you’re really stressed and panicky So yoga does this by two ways by using breath to your nervous system. Your nervous system basically controls how stressed you are – or not! but basically it’s a way of having direct access it does involve a little bit of exercise Yoga’s not exercise – This is a short film on why to do yoga.
