Yoga Chest & Hip Opening Poses : Benefits of Yoga

In this series, we will be focusing on poses
and postures that will be opening the chest and the hips. These are both areas of the
body that tend to be pretty tight in Americans. We often have jobs where we are sitting at
a desk all day long. Or, we are standing for long periods of time. Both of these activities
create tightness across the front of the chest and also in the hips, because we are not usually
sitting in a position such as this as we are doing these things. So, these poses will create
length across the front of the chest. Open the muscles in the hips, and strengthening
the opposing muscles as well. We will start our series with a three part breath, which
is a basic breath, but it allows more oxygen into the lungs. It allows the diaphragm to
work more efficiently. So, focusing again on the chest, we are going to be bringing
more oxygen in and letting go of emotional baggage in our hips. So, let’s get started.
