Yoga Poses & Equipment : Aerobic Yoga Poses

Hi, my name is Ashley Ludman from Seaside
Yoga. And a question that is often asked of me is how do I combine my aerobic exercise
with my yoga practice? These days we don’t have a lot of time so we want to get everything
in together. So depending on the pace on which you perform yoga and the style that you practice,
you can do both at the same time. You want to make sure though that you have an understanding
of aligning yourself correctly within the yoga postures themselves. So you might practice
holding poses for a little bit, understanding the alignment and then advance to a place
where you’re actually moving in a way that’s called Vinyasa, you’re linking your breath
with your movement. So I’m going to demonstrate a very typical Sun Salutation sequence and
I’ll show you how I get my heart rate up. You’ll probably hear it in my voice too, I’ll
talk you through along the way. So instead of lingering in the pose, we’ll just keep
moving quickly from one pose to the next. In a way, where we are still sustaining the
strength of the pose. So we’ll begin in Mountain Pose, standing tall engaging a deep breath
in through the nose and out through the mouth. And actually in through the nose and out through
the nose is great too. Exhale and fold forward, inhale strongly lengthen your spine, look
forward. Exhale, jump back to Chaturanga, inhale Upward Facing Dog, exhale Downward
Facing Dog. Inhaling Warrior I, exhale Chaturanga. Inhale Up Dog, exhale Down Dog. And same thing
on the left side, Warrior I, inhale rise, exhale, inhale. So if you do that a few time
I bet you get your heart rate up, and that’s how you combine your aerobic work out with
your yoga.
